Zakka from the Heart – and merry Christmas!

Minki Kim – auch bekannt als zeriano auf Instagram – hat ein neues Buch herausgebracht und ich darf dir heute ein Nähprojekt (oder zwei) daraus vorstellen.
„Zakka from the Heart“ heißt ihr neues Werk, und zeigt 16 bezaubernde Projekte, um jedes Haus gemütlicher zu machen.

Minki Kim – also known as zeriano on Instagram – has a new book and I’ll present you a project (or two) today. It’s called „Zakka from the Heart“, and it contains 16 charming projects to warm any house.

Und ich finde wirklich eins süßer als das andere und hätte sie am liebsten alle gleich genäht. Aber wer schafft das schon! Vor allem so kurz vor Weihnachten. (Ich gehöre leider zu denen, die noch nicht alles Anfang November fertig haben. Aber soll’s ja geben. Vielleicht als Vorsatz für nächstes Jahr?)

And I really think that one project is cuter than the other and would have loved to sew them all right away. But who has time, especially when Christmas is right around the corner. (I’m unfortunately not one of these people who have everything ready by the beginning of November. They exist, I assure you. Maybe a resolution for the New Year?)

Ich musste mich also für Minki’s Book Tour für ein Werk entscheiden.

So I had to choose one project for Minki’s book tour.

Ich bin auf Minki vor allem wegen ihrer Nähmalerei aufmerksam geworden und habe mich durch ihr erstes Buch „Sew Illustrated“ erst so richtig damit beschäftigt. Und überhaupt getraut, dass auch mal zu probieren.

I first discovered Minki because of her sewing illustrations and really got into the subject with her first book „Sew Illustrated“. That’s the one that made me really give it a try.

Und anstatt noch ein schnelles Weihnachtsgeschenk für wen auch immer zu nähen, habe ich an mich gedacht (doch auch so wichtig in dieser stressigen Vorweihnachtszeit) und mir den Nähmaschinen-Miniquilt als Türbehang genäht.

So, instead of sewing a quick Christmas present for whomever, I thought of myself (rather important in the craziness that is this time before Christmas, I think) and made the sewing machine mini quilt as a door hanging for my sewing room.

Ich finde die Kombination aus Patchwork und Nähmalerei wirklich schön! Und musste beim Zuschneiden doch wieder sehr lachen, als ich aus den V&Co Metallic Ombré Streifen noch Quadrate geschnitten habe, um sie dann wieder in genau der Reihenfolge zusammenzunähen. Typisch Quilter, oder?

I love the combination of patchwork and sewing illustration! And I had to laugh when cutting my V&Co Metallic Ombré strips into squares to sew them back together in the same order. What a quilter thing to do, right?

Minki hat ja so eine wunderbar leichte, verspielte, romantische Art in ihrer Stoffwahl, das könnte ich nie nachmachen.
Aber darum liebe ich persönlich solche Buch-Vorstellungen und kaufe meist auch erst Bücher, wenn ich ein paar Werke daraus von anderen genäht gesehen habe: man kann den Anleitungen doch immer den eigenen Stil aufdrücken.

Minki has such a wonderful, light and romantic touch when choosing fabrics for her projects. Something I could never reproduce. But that’s what I love about book tours and why I often only buy a book after seeing more projects out of it sewn by others: you discover often that you can definitely add your own touch to any book project.

Natürlich musste meine Nähmaschine also Regenbogenfarben haben. Und der „I’m a Maker“ Hintergrundstoff von Art Gallery Fabrics ist einer meiner absoluten Lieblinge und passt immer perfekt zu bunt. Dazu ein bisschen Regenbogen-Faden und mein Lieblingsstoff von Libs Elliotts Tattooed collection: Gem Stripe in Pink als Binding und fertig ist das Schmuckstück.

So of course my sewing machine comes in rainbow colours. And the “I’m a maker” fabric by Art Gallery Fabrics is one of my all-time favourites and goes so well with everything rainbow. Add some rainbow thread and my go-to binding (Libs Elliott’s Tattooed Gem Strip in pink) and you have a winner.

Einziger Nachteil: jetzt sieht es fast zu einladend aus. Wahrscheinlich sollte ich noch ein „Achtung vor dem Nahttrenner“ oder „Fass bloß meine Stoffscheren nicht an, sonst …“ hinzufügen.

One drawback: it might look a tad too inviting. I should probably add some „Beware of the seam ripper“ or “Don’t come near the fabric scissors with your paper, or else …” messages.

Natürlich konnte ich es nicht lassen, auch noch so ein kleines Macaron-Nadelkissen auszuprobieren. (ch hab ja nun mal 12 Jahre in Frankreich gelebt.) So richtig hab ich es noch nicht hinbekommen. Ich glaube, es hätte doch etwas mehr Füllung vertragen. Es ist schließlich ein Macaron, da ist Füllung doch super wichtig.

Of course I couldn’t resist trying one of these sweet macaron pincushions. (I mean, I lived in France for 12 years.) I didn’t get it right on the first try, obviously. I think I could have added a little more filling. It’s a macaron after all, filling is important.

Wahrscheinlich war ich in Gedanken schon beim vielen Weihnachtsessen und wollte mich zurückhalten. Aber die nächsten Scheiben sind schon gebacken … ich meine, genäht, und warten nur noch auf ihre Füllung. Meine nächsten Swap – Partner sollten sich also nicht wundern, falls es Macarons (nicht essbar) als Zugabe gibt.

I probably was already at the Christmas feast in my thoughts and wanted to hold back. But the next discs are already baked … I mean sewed, and only await the filling. My next swap partners should therefore not be surprised if I add a little macaron here or there. The none edible kind.

Alles in allem wieder ein wunderschönes Buch und das ein oder andere Täschchen oder Körbchen steht schon ziemlich weit oben auf der Nähliste.

All in all another wonderful book and the next pouch or basket is already on top of my to-sew-list.
